Grower lockwashers are designed for applications where a constant tension or compressive force must be maintained on fasteners subject to dynamic loads, vibration or temperature variations. For the shape with splitting and for the elasticity characteristics of the steel they are made, they are particularly effective in ensuring a stable connection and durable over time.
They consist of a slightly misaligned split body. When a screw or nut applies pressure, a spring effect is created in the washer which generates an opposite reaction force such that unintentional unscrewing is prevented, even if there are reductions in the tightening loads.
